Serena Williams turns heads with a VERY unique one-legged catsuit as she wins her first round at the Australian Open

  • Serena Williams has caught the eye after wearing a one-legged catsuit to a competition
  • The 39-year-old wore the brightly colored catsuit until her match in the second round
  • The seven-time champion beat the German player Laura Siegemund

Serena Williams showed no signs of a shoulder injury as she walked into the second round of the Australian Open with an impressive victory over Germany’s Laura Siegemund.

Wearing a brightly colored one-legged catsuit on Rod Laver Arena, the seven-time champion lost the opening game, but beat Siegemund 6-1 6-1 in less than an hour.

The 39-year-old, who has been seeded 10th, had pulled out of a semi-final run-up tournament against Ash Barty, citing the injury, but didn’t seem bothered by the one-sided affair.

On the hunt for her 24th Grand Slam title, Williams will next face Serbian World Champion Nina Stojanovic, who defeated Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in straight sets.

Williams brought 16 winners to Siegemund’s four, while the world’s number 49 couldn’t find a way to stop the attack.

The striking outfit caused a stir on social media, with tennis fans divided over the daring choice.

“Serena Williams has just casually revealed a one-legged jumpsuit,” wrote one tennis fan.

“While all those other suckers wear the same Nike uniform, Serena is getting tailor-made,” added another.

‘I love this suit. She will definitely return to her physical top form, ‘wrote a third.

Others weren’t so sure about the outfit.

“Well done, they pay her well, that’s awful,” said one Twitter user.

‘This looks ridiculously uncomfortable, especially in the Melbourne heat,’ shared another.

This was a great start – vintage ‘Rena,’ Williams said in the post-game interview.

“I think I’m pretty good at pacing myself at a grand slam.”

The American was eager to get off the track to make it to the end of the Super Bowl and see legendary Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady, who is 43, in action.

“I’m American and we love the Super Bowl and Tom Brady is in my age group, so it’s exciting,” she said.

‘He’s amazing – to compete … at 43 is unheard of and it’s super inspiring to me at my ripe young age of 30-something.’
