Florida senator Marco Rubio warned that impeaching the outgoing president, Donald Trump, is counterproductive and could make him a “martyr,” in addition to dividing the country further at a difficult time.

“His movement will be stronger because you martyred him,” he told Democratic lawmakers.
Rubio stressed that while he was against impeachment, he condemned what had happened last week and said that “the president should shirk all responsibility”.
