Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is urging Canadians to take Covid-19 “very seriously as the numbers continue to go in the wrong direction.”

He added, “Our fight against this virus is not over yet, even as we are preparing to say goodbye and resolve it by 2020.”

In a press conference on Friday, Trudeau said, “Canadians are pretty good at enduring long, harsh winters, and this is going to be longer and tougher than we’re used to.”

Frontline workers in Canada began receiving vaccinations earlier this week.

“Getting a vaccine, in a week or a month, makes no sense if you get Covid-19 today,” he added.

Trudeau spoke in French and asked Canadians across the country to stay indoors, wear masks, and keep a social distance during the holidays.

“Christmas won’t be the same this year, but it will still be an opportunity for us to be around someone physically or virtually,” said Trudeau.

“Just like this spring, summer and fall, we will be there for you. We’re here for you, every step of the way, ”Trudeau promised. “As a government, we will do whatever it takes, as long as it takes to keep you safe and supported. We are entering the last miles of this crisis and we cannot give up now. ”
