The film ‘Selena1997, written and directed by Gregory Nava, about the popular singer Queen of Tex-Mex Selena quintanilla, could be part of the United States National Film Registry at the request of Latino congressmen seeking to increase Hispanic presence in this organ of the Library of Congress.
The mythical film that is already a cone of Latin American culture, counted at the time of filming with the performance of a novice Jennifer Lopez, who surprises with his interpretation of Selena.
Joaqun Castro, president of the Hispanic Caucus in Congress (CHC), wrote to Congressional Librarian Carla Hayden to add the film that was part of the life of Selena ; and plays the leading role Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos to ensure that “the experiences of Latino Americans are well represented.”
The Texas Congressman indicated that the 2021 recording of “SelenaIt would, in part, alleviate the “continued exclusion of Latinos from the film industry,” something that has been declared unjust for years when the percentage of the Latino population in the northern country is taken into account.
“The film has become a beloved cone of Latino culture and has become a huge success in the general marketplace, proving once and for all that Latino stories are American stories,” said Castro.
