Select Walgreens to start administering COVID-19 vaccines :: WRAL.com

Walgreens will begin administering coronavirus vaccines at 300 locations in North Carolina.

As of Feb. 12, more than 31,000 doses of the vaccine will be given to those who qualify.

Walgreens was selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the United States Department of Health and Human Services to provide vaccines in 15 states and jurisdictions as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.

The CDC chose states and jurisdictions for the program to increase access to vaccines in medically disadvantaged areas and areas with a high social vulnerability score, which are the potential negative impacts on communities caused by external stresses on human health. The CDC will assign a certain number of vaccines to Walgreens at each place.

Walgreens was one of the first pharmacies to begin administering COVID-19 vaccinations to staff and residents of long-term care facilities in December, and we look forward to using our experience to support the federal government and CDC in expanding access to these vaccines, ”John Standley, the president of Walgreens, said in a statement.

Once vaccination appointments are available, people should go to Walgreens’ website to schedule them. Walk-ins are not accepted.
