SeaWorld’s attorneys ask SAWS about using a parking space as a water distribution site

SAN ANTONIO – SeaWorld attorneys apparently had some concern that the San Antonio Water System wants to use its parking lot as a water distribution site for residents in urgent need of water.

According to SAWS president and CEO Robert Puente, the lawyers had many questions.

“Questions about indemnification, liability. We get that. We also know there is an emergency. We are trying to break through all of that. It was impossible to cut. We had to go so far as to go to the mayor and the district judge to declare an emergency so we could get into this lot and use this parking lot, ”said Puente.

Puente said that when the lawyers heard that a potential emergency had been declared, they gave permission for SAWS to enter the premises.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg’s spokesman said no emergency warrant had been issued.

The SeaWorld site was one of seven water distribution sites at SAWS pumping stations where the utility is giving away free water to customers who have no water or low water pressure due to the winter storm.

Customers should bring their own clean containers, such as pitchers, to fill with water, the utility said.

Customers receive five liters of water per person. As a precaution, the water should be boiled before drinking or used in cooking, in line with current advice on cooking water for the city, officials said.

From Saturday, opening hours are every day from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The sites will remain open until the water system returns to normal.
