Scottish police shut down Kilmarnock hospital after ‘serious incidents’

LONDON (Reuters) – Police in Scotland shut down University Hospital Crosshouse and a main street in the city of Kilmarnock on Thursday while dealing with three potentially linked serious incidents.

The first took place outside the hospital at 7:45 PM, Scotland police said, followed by a second about 20 minutes later on Portland Street and the third, a serious road accident, on the A76 at around 8:30 PM.

“We can confirm that the ongoing incidents in the Kilmarnock area are not being treated as terrorist related,” said police.

They said the investigations were in the early stages and the areas have been cordoned off. “There is no cause for concern for the wider community,” they added.

Scottish Justice Minister Humza Yousaf advised the public to avoid both Crosshouse Hospital and Portland Street, saying that the police were attending a very serious incident.

The Scottish Sun reported that the hospital had been locked up amid reports of stabbings.
