Schitt’s Creek Emily Hampshire makes a new version of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman

Schitt’s Creek could have ended, but the cast continues to spread to the wider TV universe. Hence news today-Thanks to The Wrap– that series star Emily Hampshire (who played sardonic hotel manager / adopted Rose Stevie Budd on all six seasons of the beloved comedy series) has lined up her next performance: lead role in, produce on, and prescribe a remake of Norman Lear’s classic soap opera parody, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.

Starring Louise Lasser, and mainwritten by Ann Marcus, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman was a TV sensation in the 1970s, kickstarting the soap opera genre and injecting a relentless wave of consumer satire into the heart of the American home. Lasser’s Mary, a stereotypical housewife who led an often non-stereotypical life, lived in fear of ‘waxy yellow build-upAnd the constant outbreaks of bizarre violence around her, introducing the wider world to the strangeness of the resident (and strange residents) from her hometown Fernwood, Ohio. The new series sounds like it hopes to do something similar – except with the obligatory internet twist, like Hampshire’s Mary is forced to deal with the consequences and ‘verified’ attention of the world after a clip of her bad luck goes viral online.

The reboot series – just the latest attempts to revive Lear’s socially conscious, often caustic TV comedy in front of modern audiences, after in the footsteps of One day at a time—Developed at Sony TV. LetterkennyJacob Tierney, a longtime employee of Hampshire’s, will co-write and act as showrunner for the series.
