Saudi Arabia says it has intercepted ‘hostile target’ over Riyadh

Saudi Arabia intercepted what they described as a “hostile target” over the capital Riyadh, state media revealed.

“I heard a loud noise and thought something had fallen from the sky,” said one resident, Agence France-Presse reported Saturday. “The whole house was shaking.”

Official media did not say where the hostile target came from, but the country has been repeatedly attacked by Huthi rebels in Yemen.

The Iranian-backed insurgents have been engaged in years of struggle to overthrow Yemen’s internationally recognized government backed by Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi intervention, which began in 2015, has received international criticism for exacerbating a humanitarian crisis in the poor country.

Under Trump’s administration, the Huthis were branded as terrorists, something incoming Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said he would review in an effort to ease suffering.
