However, cast member Alex Moffat took over the role of Biden on Saturday night and made his debut in the cold open of the show.
It featured fellow cast member Beck Bennett as Vice President Pence who received his vaccination against the coronavirus at the White House on Friday.
“I’m sure all Americans are excited to see me, the man who spread COVID everywhere, get one of the first vaccines,” Bennett said as Pence.
“I’ve won more votes,” she replied.
Then Moffat’s Biden entered, wearing a walking boot and a walking stick in hand. Bennett’s Pence told him he “looked different.”
“I’m just like Colonel Sanders. Every time you see me I’m a different boy,” said Moffat as he played Biden. “This time next year, I’ll be Mario Lopez … Where are the vaccines now?”
In a tweet earlier Saturday, Carrey announced that he would no longer play Biden in the weekly sketch comedy series.
