‘Saturday Night Live’ returned to ‘Weekend Update’ to mock the ‘wrong’ Capitol Riots, Trump’s impeachment

“Saturday Night Live” returned from its winter break with a “Weekend Update” segment determined to catch up with the violent riot in the Capitol and the ouster of Donald Trump.

Hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che seemed eager to get back behind the “Weekend Update” desk after the show went dark for the very eventful weeks leading up to and during the inauguration.

“A lot has happened since our last show,” Jost started the segment on Saturday. Much of it was good. The inauguration was fun. Christmas, I loved Christmas. And hey, now white people are on the terrorist list. So for diversity! It is important to see yourself represented. ‘

Che also labeled the people who breached Capitol security as white supremacists joking about President Joe Biden’s recent executive order calling for more American goods to be bought in the US.

“President Biden has signed an executive order urging US agencies to purchase American-made products,” Che began. “Unfortunately, the only products still being made in America are tactical equipment for white militias and student loan debt.”

Elsewhere in the segment, Che introduced Cecily Strong as a character named Cathy Anne, to talk about the ‘wrong’ move by people who stormed the Capitol earlier this month. The character also called the rioters “Nazis” and “white supremacists”.

“These Republicans will not do anything about these traitors, even if they are the ones who will be killed,” she said. “What the hell is wrong with them?”

The chain-smoking, dumb character compared Republican lawmakers to possums, hissing, then dead.

Jost also commented on Trump’s historic second impeachment that resulted from the Capitol riots. In particular, he spurned US Senator Rand Paul, who was a vocal critic of the Democrats’ push to overthrow the former president, even going so far as to call it unconstitutional.

“It’s times like these when I think it’s important for us as a country to remember that Rand Paul was kicked by his neighbor while mowing his lawn,” the host scoffed, referring to the violent attack Rand suffered through at the hands of his neighbor, Dr. Rene Boucher, about a lawn care dispute.

“As hilarious as that must have been to watch, violence against lawmakers is wrong and his neighbor spent 8 months in jail,” Jost continued. “So we should be able to punish the president who sent Mad Max to overthrow the government.”

Jost also suggested allowing Rand Paul to compete in a boxing match against YouTube celebrity Logan Paul.

“And that way the American wins, no matter who loses,” he concluded.
