“If they come together and have a trial, I will definitely consider what articles they could move because as I said, I believe the president has ignored his oath of office,” Sasse said in an interview on “CBS This Morning.”

He has sworn an oath to the American people to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. He acted against that, ”Sasseh said. “What he did was bad.”

Sasse in the interview held back a bit, suggesting that it might not be in America’s best interest to impeach Trump, even if there was unacceptable behavior, given he’s only been in office for 12 days.

“The question is more of a prudential question. What’s best for America in 2022 or 2032. The question isn’t what’s best for Donald Trump,” Sasse said.

Trump has fallen under a bipartisan rage after inciting a mob attacking the Capitol on Wednesday in one of the most outrageous scenes in US history.

For more than 24 hours, Trump did little to show any regret, instead sending a video Wednesday that spent more time repeating conspiracy theories about his November election loss than pushing for calm or inciting rioters to the Capitol to leave.

On Thursday night, the president reversed his course amid mounting political pressure, resignation of cabinet officials and the real possibility that he was in legal jeopardy for his actions, condemning the riot in another video.
