We can now add the young Kryptonian butt-kicker Supergirl to Warner Media’s ongoing efforts to duplicate (at least!) Every character on their DC Comics movie and TV rosters, with Deadline reporting that Sasha Calle will play a new version of the character in Andy Muschietti’s forthcoming Flash movieCalle is best known for her role in The young and the restless, where she has played the last 283 episodes. (That’s “since 2018” in non-soap opera language.)

Muschietti posted a video to his Instagram today, showing the moment when he revealed to Calle that she was cast in the role, and it’s, you know, extremely cute and sweet. Calle was said to be one of over 400 performers who auditioned for the part (without apparently even knowing which part they were going for during much of the process); among other things, she read with the movie star, Ezra Miller, as part of the extensive screening process. Calle is the first Latinx actor to play the character, currently played by Melissa Benoist on The CW’s Arrowverse of shows.

Not much is known about it yet The flash, which has been in development for years without hindering much forward movement. The biggest news was of course the addition of Michael Keaton’s Batman to the cast, making it clear that the film was likely to disappear heavily into the DC Comics multiverse. There is also the great part that intended will not moving forward; Ray Fisher’s Cyborg was originally supposed to appear in the film, but his high-profile disagreements with DC Films over alleged abuse on the set of Justice League has that particular earth scorched quite thoroughly by this time.
