E.l Mexican football club Santos Laguna is suing the Walt Disney Company for multi-million dollar damages for alleged breaches of contract resulting from the US global entertainment giant’s acquisition of Twenty-First Century Fox last year.

The club filed a lawsuit in a California court this week, allege Disney violated the terms of a five-year deal signed in 2017 who established lucrative rights to broadcast their home games as well as other promotional services.
The team, based in the northern city of Torreón, says the alleged violations could leave it without a viable partner to broadcast its games.

Santos Laguna claims the original agreement they signed with what was then known as FSLA Holdings, previously a Fox unit, was valued at approximately $ 106 million, covering the broadcast rights to the games in Mexico and abroad as of the 2019/2020 season.
But after acquiring Fox for $ 71 billion, Disney agreed to divest itself from the FSLA, now known as TFCF Holdings.
We believe the lawsuits are completely unfounded and we will defend ourselves vigorously against them, ”said a Disney spokesman.
Santos put Winston on the COVID-19 reserve list
The lawsuit says Disney agreed with Mexican regulators that sports broadcaster ESPN, of which it owns the majority, would not try to buy from its competitor to facilitate approval of the operation in the Latin American country.
The ESPN and Fox Sports channels are the two main stations for professional football matches in Mexico.
