Sandy Carriello, a member of the iconic musical duo ‘Sandy & Papo’, died this Wednesday in New York at the age of 48, apparently of a heart attack.

His death was reported by local and international media, who did not elaborate on the cause of his death or reveal where his funeral will take place.

Carriello, whose stage name was Sandy MC, became famous in Latin America thanks to the success he achieved in the popular merengue house and hip-hop group formed with his friend Luis Deschamps, Papo MC, who died in a car accident in 1999.

Sandy & Papo managed to release their first album in October 1995, Dominican media El Nuevo Diario recalls.

Until the end of the 90s songs like ‘El mover mover’, ‘El alacrán’, ‘Es hora de baile’, ‘La fiesta’, ‘MSR’ and ‘La chica sexy’ became popular not only in their native Dominican Republic, but in different countries of the continent.

After Papo’s death, Sandy continued her solo career, first with the release of an album in honor of her partner, released in 2000.

Later he recorded the albums ‘El duro soy yo’ (2005) and Insuperable (2010).
