San Juan de Dios Hospital in Córdoba has expanded its services with the launch of a hyperbaric medicine department together with VMG Salud. As reported by the hospital itself in a press release, therapy with oxygen hyperbaric involves administering oxygen at a higher pressure than normal to increase its amount in the blood and thus ameliorate various pathologies in which it has been shown to be effective.
The medical director of Hospital, Enrique Cantillo, explains that “the commitment to this innovative system means an increase in the center’s service portfolio as well as the province’s private healthcare landscape, as we are the first not only by starting it, but also in the hospital environment. In this sense, he emphasized that it is a multidisciplinary treatment where coordination between specialties is crucial to refer patients who could benefit from this therapy.
Great effectiveness in patients who have suffered from Covid-19
The use of hyperbaric medicine it is diverse and shows its effectiveness in a wide variety of pathologies in 24 specialties, including cardiology, cardiovascular problems, (diabetic foot); otolaryngologists (to deal with sudden deafness or sinusitis); neurological (stroke patients); traumatological and aid in the rapid recovery of osteomuscular injuries of a sporting nature; gynecological, dermatological or pneumological, among others. In this sense, it has been shown to be very effective in the recovery of patients who have had covid-19.
In fact, one of the first applications this unit will have will be the treatment of patients receiving the COVID-19, to which this therapy will be offered to improve the possible sequelae that may have remained, said Valentín Martínez, head of VMG Salud, who says many hospitals have used these cameras for the recovery of post-covid patients.
