San Francisco 49ers to hire Butch Barry away from Packers

The 49ers will complement their offensive coaching staff. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported Friday Butch Barry was going to San Francisco as an assistant offensive line coach.

Barry last season worked as a senior analyst for Green Bay, where he signed for the 2020 campaign. Prior to his time with the Packers, Barry was the offensive line coach at the University of Miami.

He made his coaching debut in Southwest Minnesota State in 2004 as their offensive line trainer. From there, he moved to Michigan Tech in 2006 as a coach in the offensive line, eventually becoming their offensive coordinator. He then bounced to North Greenville University and back to Central Michigan where he played his college football and worked as a graduate assistant for two years in 2002 and 2003.

Barry’s NFL coaching debut came with the Buccaneers in 2015. He was the assistant OL coach for Tampa Bay for four years before taking the OL coach job at the University of Miami in 2019.

In San Francisco, he will work under OL coach Chris Foerster, who was assistant OL coach on the staff last year.
