Miami continued the deal a short time later, sending that pick # 12, # 123 and a 2022 first round to the Eagles in exchange for # 6 and # 156 this year, it was announced.
These blockbuster moves confirm that the Dolphins insist on building this off-season around quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in 2021, while increasing their flexibility and ability to add elite talent through the design in the years to come.
The move puts the 49ers squarely in the mix to draft a top quarterback, but sources told ESPN that San Francisco is holding onto Jimmy Garoppolo and has no plans to trade him in.
“Jimmy is here to stay,” a source among the 49ers told Schefter. “He is our man this year.”
The 49ers chose to trade because they are good with the options that will be at number 3 after picks by the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets, sources told ESPN.
The # 3 pick was acquired by Miami in the deal that sent Laremy Tunsil to the Houston Texans. As a result of that deal, the Dolphins have now received Noah Igbinoghene, Solomon Kindley, the No. 12, No. 36, and No. 102 picks in 2021, as well as first-round selections in 2022 and 2023.
The third round of the selection of the 49ers to the Dolphins in 2022 is a compensatory choice for the Jets’ recruitment of Robert Saleh.
