Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through Dec. 14.

ICU Capacity and Stay Home Order:

  • Current ICU capacity for the Southern California region is now 1.7% and will be updated daily by the state.
  • The Regional home order is now in effect prohibiting gatherings of any size with people from other households and adding restrictions for multiple sectors.
  • The order will take a minimum of three weeks or until the region’s ICU capacity is 15% or more. The order will be reviewed by the state after the three-week period.

Outbreaks in the community:

  • On December 14, six new outbreaks were confirmed in the community: five in a corporate setting and one in a faith-based agency setting.
  • In the past seven days (December 8 to December 14), 43 outbreaks have been confirmed in the community.
  • The number of outbreaks in the community remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • A community outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in an environment and in people from different households in the past 14 days.

To test:

  • On December 14, 23,485 tests were reported to the County, and the percentage of new laboratory-confirmed cases was 8%.
  • The moving average percentage of positive cases over 14 days is 8.1%. Target is less than 8.0%.
  • The 7-day, daily mean of tests is 25,213.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with symptoms should be tested. Healthcare and essential workers should also be tested, as well as people who have been in close contact with a positive case or live in communities that are heavily affected. Those who have recently returned from travel, or who have attended holiday gatherings, are also urged to get tested.

Cases:

  • 1,863 new cases were reported to the County on Dec. 14. The total of the region is now 111,441.
  • Hospitalization was required for 5,212 or 4.7% of all cases.
  • 1,118 or 1.0% of all cases and 21.5% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • On December 14, 32 new COVID-19 deaths were reported to the County. The region’s total is now 1,194.
  • Nine women and 23 men died between November 23 and December 14, and their ages ranged from the mid-50s to the early 100s.
  • All but one of those who died had underlying medical conditions.
