San Diego County COVID-19 Update – 9/4/2021 | News

Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through April 8.

Progress vaccination:

  • Nearly 2.2 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been delivered in the region and about 2 million have been recorded as being administered. This number includes county residents as well as those who work in San Diego County.
  • Of those vaccinated so far, more than 652,000 residents of the county, or 24.3% of San Diegans ages 16 and older, have been fully immunized.
  • In total, nearly 1.12 million residents of the county have received at least one injection of the two-dose vaccine. That’s 41.7% of those who qualify.
  • Those who receive the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine are added to the total of fully vaccinated San Diegans.
  • The difference between the doses administered and the doses used in a vaccination roughly represents what is expected to be administered in the next seven days and the doses still to be entered into the registration system.

Status statistics:

  • San Diego County’s state-calculated, adjusted number of cases is currently 5.8 cases per 100,000 residents (as of April 6), and the region is in Orange Tier or Tier 3.
  • Currently, the test positivity rate is 2.3%, placing the County in Tier 3 or the Orange Tier.
  • The County Health Value, which looks at the test positivity for areas with the lowest healthy conditions, is 2.6% and is also in the Orange Tier or Tier 3.
  • All three statistics place the county in the Orange Tier or Tier 3 for activities.
  • The California Department of Public Health reviews counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13.

Outbreaks in the community:

  • Three new outbreaks in the community were confirmed on April 8: one in a daycare / preschool / daycare, one in a TK-12th primary school setting and one in a restaurant / bar setting.
  • In the past seven days (April 2 to April 8), 19 outbreaks were confirmed in the community.
  • The number of outbreaks in the community remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • A community outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in an environment and in people from different households in the past 14 days.

To test:

  • 17,194 tests were reported to the county on April 8, and the rate of new positive cases was 1%.
  • The moving average percentage of positive cases over 14 days is 2.1%. Target is less than 8.0%.
  • The 7-day, daily mean of tests is 12,156.

Case studies, hospital admissions and IC admissions:

  • 202 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on April 8. The total of the region is now 272,696.
  • Hospitalization was required in 14,952 or 5.5% of all cases.
  • 1,664 or 0.6% of all cases and 11.1% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • Eight new COVID-19 deaths were reported on April 8. The total of the region is 3,600.
  • Seven men and a woman died between January 5 and January 9.
  • Of those who died, one was 80 years or older, three were in their 70s, two in their 60s, one in their 50s, and one in their 30s.
  • Six had underlying medical conditions and two had a medical history pending.
