San Diego County COVID-19 Update – 2/2/2021 | News

Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through Feb. 1, 2021.

Status statistics:

  • San Diego County’s state-calculated, adjusted number of cases is currently 42.5 cases per 100,000 residents, and the region is in Purple Tier or Tier 1.
  • The test positivity rate is 10.5%, putting the County in Tier 1 or the Purple Tier.
  • The district health equality statistic, which looks at the test positivity for areas with the lowest healthy conditions, is 14% and is in the purple tier or tier 1. This metric does not move counties to more restrictive levels, but is required to continue to a less restrictive layer.
  • The California Department of Public Health reviews counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9.

Outbreaks in the community:

  • Four outbreaks in the community were confirmed on Feb. 1: three in corporate settings and one in a distribution warehouse.
  • In the past seven days (Jan. 26 to Feb. 1), 57 outbreaks were confirmed in the community.
  • The number of outbreaks in the community remains above the trigger of seven or more in seven days.
  • A community outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in an environment and in people from different households in the past 14 days.

To test:

  • On Feb. 1, 9,955 tests were reported to the county and the rate of new positive cases was 9%.
  • The moving average percentage of positive cases within 14 days is 8%. Target is less than 8.0%.
  • The 7-day, daily mean of tests is 18,691.
  • People at higher risk for COVID-19 who are with or without symptoms should be tested. People with symptoms should be tested. Caregivers and vital workers should also be tested, as well as people who have been in close contact with a positive cause or live in communities that are heavily affected. Those who have recently returned from a trip are also urged to get tested.

Cases, hospital admissions and IC admissions:

  • On February 1, 926 cases were reported to the district. The last time the daily total of cases was less than 1000 was November 29, when 959 cases were reported. The total of the region is now 240,050.
  • Hospitalization was required for 10,255 or 4.3% of all cases.
  • 1,464 or 0.6% of all cases and 14.3% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to an intensive care unit.

Deaths:

  • On February 1, 10 new COVID-19 deaths were reported. The total of the region is 2,629.
  • Seven men and three women died between January 17 and January 30.
  • Of the 10 new deaths reported that day, four people who died were age 80 or older, five people were in their 70s, and one person was in their 60s.
  • They all had underlying medical conditions.
