San Antonio Spurs Have 4 Players Test Positive for COVID-19; postponed five games

The NBA has postponed the San Antonio Spurs’ next three games after four players on the team tested positive for COVID-19, the league announced on Tuesday.

The Charlotte Hornets, who played against Spurs on Sunday, are undergoing contact tracking and will have their next two games postponed, according to the NBA.

The Spurs have been quarantined in Charlotte since Sunday’s game, ESPN sources tell ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

San Antonio’s hit games were scheduled for Wednesday in the Cleveland Cavaliers, Saturday in the New York Knicks, and next Monday in the Indiana Pacers.

San Antonio’s next possible game is on Feb. 24 at the Oklahoma City Thunder, meaning the Spurs will have more than a week between games – joining the Washington Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies as teams to face such a situation this season. to endure.

The Hornets’ games affected were scheduled for Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls and Friday against the Denver Nuggets.

Charlotte’s next possible game is now at home against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, in what would be Stephen Curry’s annual return to North Carolina, where he grew up.

The postponement announced on Tuesday pushes the total number of games that were moved to 29 this season due to positive tests or contact tracking issues, including the Spurs’ game in the Detroit Pistons to be played on Tuesday-evening. The NBA canceled that game on Monday.

The NBA doesn’t disclose which players tested positive, but the latest postponement announcement said the Spurs had positive tests among players – and did not name coaches. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich announced last month, on his 72nd birthday, that he had been given the vaccine that protects against the effects of COVID-19.

The Spurs were without guard Quinndary Weatherspoon for their game against Charlotte on Sunday because of the competition’s COVID-19 protocols; Weatherspoon had played 10 minutes in Atlanta against the Hawks on Friday, but was flagged by protocols over the weekend.

Being excluded because of the protocols can suggest a number of things, including a positive test, a presumptive positive test, or contact information showing that a player may have been exposed to a person with COVID-19.
