Samsung hits a new low, selling the fewest number of smartphones in nearly a decade

According to reports from South Korea, Samsung may have had its lowest shipments ever in nearly a decade this year. The handset manufacturer has apparently only shipped less than 300 million devices, GizChina reports. Here too, much of the credit goes to the pandemic. According to reports, Samsung’s total shipments were approximately 189.4 million units by the end of the third quarter and total shipments for the year were approximately 270 million.

While these numbers are certainly low, it could be the same with other cell phone brands as the pandemic affected almost every brand and company.

But that doesn’t stop the Korean smartphone maker from returning in 2021. The company would release multiple 5G smartphones next year. It will also pay close attention to foldable handsets in the ‘affordable’ price tag. “Accessible” in this case most likely refers to the price of the folding items which are currently between $ 1,300 and $ 2,000.

TM Roh, Samsung’s mobile president, has dropped quite a few hints on Samsung’s roadmap recently. Judging from what we know, Samsung is set to launch the Samsung Galaxy S21 series at this January event. Interestingly, Roh has also suggested that S Pen support will come to more of their smartphones and that Samsung plans to expand its arsenal of foldable phones with “cheaper” options.

This could also mean that, according to the rumor, the Note line-up will soon come to an end, at least as a premium flagship in Samsung’s range. But a separate report states that the Note line of handsets will continue in 2021.
