SINGAPORE – Samsung said on Monday that the next smartphone announcement will be on January 14, where the latest versions of its Galaxy flagship phones are expected to appear.

Invitations from the world’s largest smartphone maker state that the event will air on Samsung’s website this Thursday at 10 a.m.ET (11 p.m. SIN / HK time).

The launch takes place in the same week as the digital CES 2021 – the biggest tech show of the year, where large companies often show off their new products.

Samsung, South Korea’s electronics giant, usually launches its flagship Galaxy devices in February, close to or during the Mobile World Congress trade show.

Samsung hasn’t revealed much in its invite to the January 14 event. However, media reports from previous leaks suggest three phones could be announced – Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra, which are likely to succeed the company’s S20 devices.

Last year, the South Korean company said its revenues in the third quarter were partially boosted by smartphone sales, including the Galaxy Note 20. But Samsung predicted that there would be fierce competition in the last quarter of the year in terms of smartphones and consumer electronics. which analysts said was likely due to Apple’s iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

Samsung’s president and head of mobile communications, TM Roh, said in a December blog post that Samsung will expand its portfolio of foldable smartphones, making those devices “more accessible to everyone” by 2021. Those devices are on the more expensive side of Samsung’s family of smartphone products, with the Galaxy Z Flip costing nearly $ 1,400.

Roh also teased “professional camera and video capabilities” in Samsung’s new smartphones, hinting that some features available in Galaxy Note devices may be added to other handsets.

Shares of Samsung Electronics in South Korea rose nearly 3% on Monday.
