A lot of smartphone brands have recently turned to older camera makers to help improve the picture quality of their phones. Vivo worked together with Zeiss OnePlus worked together with Hasselblad, and now, According to multiple reports, it appears that Samsung may want to partner with Olympus to upgrade the cameras on future Galaxy phones.

A potential collaboration between Samsung and Olympus was first described on Twitter by the well-known leaker Yogesh who claimed that while the exact nature of the partnership was not yet fully understood, it could lead to new tech on the Galaxy Fold 3 (expected to launch sometime this fall) or the Galaxy S22 Ultra (which isn’t slated for release) arrive until early next year).

Reports on the collaboration were seemingly confirmed by later IceUniverse who claimed a source told him that the partnership between Samsung and Olympus was “reliable news.” Olympus reportedly was the first to get in touch to initiate initial conversations.

W.although it remains to be seen what effect Olympus gets a Dutch site on Samsung’s mobile cameras GalaxyClub.nl reports that Samsung is also considering sensorshift technology to the Galaxy S22, which happens to be (or not) the technology that Olympus has used on some of its mirrorless cameras.

Sensor-shifting is a technique commonly found on high-end DSLRs mirrorless cameras that allow the camera to move the image sensor independently of the rest of the device, reducing vibration and movement to get sharper images, flicker-free images. And in some cases, camera manufacturers like Olympus have also used sensor shift technology to move a camera’s image sensor just one pixel in multiple directions while taking a series of photos, before merging those images to create a composite image with a much higher resolution. resolution and sharper details than with a single shot.

D.special sensorshift tech hasn’t seen much action smartphone cameras. Most device makers have embraced optical image stabilization (OIS) technology instead, which typically adjusts both the camera sensor and lens together to reduce vibration while being cheaper to implement. Last fall, however, Apple added sensor shift stabilization to the wide-angle camera on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and rumor has it that Apple plans to use sensortechnology will shift to the full iPhone 13 line later this year.

Add sensorshift tech could be a major upgrade for Samsung’s Galaxy phones. T.he Galaxy S21 Ultra features an impressive 10x optical zoom that can be further improved with better stabilization. And while these specifications are not confirmed, Let’s Go Digital collaborated with Technizo Concept to create renderings of what a Galaxy S22 Ultra with a 200 MP sensor and new Olympus camera technology could look like.

Samsung essentially used the same image sensors on the last two main sensors Galaxy S phones (with improvements in image processing between generations), the company said could really benefit from improved camera hardware on upcoming Galaxy phones. T.going to Olympus could be an interesting way to make that happen.
