Sakurai explains why Xenoblade’s Rex is not a great ultimate DLC fighter

During the previous week Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presentation, Sakurai explained how the team considered having Xenoblade Chronicles 2The protagonist Rex fights alongside Pyra and Mythra, but that was simply not possible due to the limitations of the game.

Sakurai has now elaborated on this in his latest Famitsu column, explaining once again how the idea the team had in mind (of two different fighters at once) was ruled out due to technical barriers. In the end, it was decided that the hunter would turn into two similar but different characters.

“Then it was decided that we had to make it into a character Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the very first thing I thought about was to show and move Rex and Pyra on the screen at the same time. But a conclusion that it is impossible came with a competition speed. I kind of asked the team to inspect it, but it was impossible. “

“When we talk about 2 people moving as a single group, there are the Ice Climbers. They look the same and can only do the same things. When we tried Rex + Pyra, it was clear we couldn’t perform an essential task to get them [data] capacity exceeds a processing load threshold. “

The system of having Rex as the main hunter and Pyra supervising him was also determined to be difficult. The design was so complex that many things had to be done. “

Rex should be moved alone. But then I thought it would be better if we can switch between Pyra and Mythra. “

So this is why Rex didn’t make the cut as a DLC fighter. At least he got to play a part in the final smash scene for the new DLC fighter. What do you think of the latest two-in-one character? Did you hope Rex would be a playable character? Share your thoughts below.
