Saks will no longer sell products made from animal skin

Saks Fifth Avenue joined a growing list of retail chains and brands such as Macy’s, Versace and Prada on Wednesday that will stop using animal skins in response to consumer feedback.

Saks Fifth Avenue said it will phase out the use of fur by the end of the 2022 fiscal year. This also applies to the partner brand and private label items sold online and in stores. As part of the decision, Saks will discontinue sales of products made from animals raised for their skins or products made from wild animal skins. Sheepskin, goats, cattle, down, feathers, leather and faux fur products will be sold online and in stores, the New York-based retailer said.

Saks Fifth Avenue also plans to close all of its fur salons by the end of fiscal year 2021.

“During the Saks Fifth Avenue experience, we evaluated a number of factors in making decisions about our range, including customer preferences and societal changes,” said Tracy Margolies, Saks Chief Marketing Officer, in a statement. “We recognize that trends are constantly evolving and that fur sales remain a major social problem.”
