Rumor: Evidence of a “new” Nintendo Switch dock believed to be included in system update 12.0.0

Shift console

Yesterday Nintendo released version 12.0.0 of the Switch firmware. While you might have expected it to be something important, according to the official patch notes, it only solved an issue related to the data backup storage feature. It hides Others things, though?

While we’ve already had a conversation about this, it looks like data miners have now figured it out something big. New information is apparently emerging that firmware 12.0.0 supposedly contains evidence of a “new dock” designed for a newer model system that can receive updates.

Aula, as you may recall, is believed to be the codename of the rumored 4K Nintendo Switch – to which this is all linked:

OatmealDome has also noted how it could potentially be an update to the current Switch dock, but as far as they know, it has never received one.

“The Dock itself only contains USB chips, a MyDP -> HDMI converter, and flash memory to store the firmware. I’m not sure the point of an update considering how simple it is inside. as far as I know it never received one.) “

The same source further mentions how update 12.0.0 adds the following internal setting: “4kdp_preferred_over_usb30”, which seems “logical” given the rumors of “4K output” in the new model:

If this is what some think it is, Nintendo hasn’t made much of an effort to hide this information. Could all of this lead to a Switch Pro? We’ll leave that for you to discuss in the comment section below.
