Rose McGowan said she was “proud” of Evan Rachel Wood and the other women who came forward Monday, Feb. 1 with their allegations of abuse against Marilyn Manson.
In a message posted on Twitter Monday, McGowan wrote, “The cult of Hollywood, fame and the music industry must be stopped in order to protect predators and sell their disease to the world. Their disease has more reach than an atomic bomb. When those at the top help monsters make a profit, they hurt us all. “
In an accompanying video, McGowan said: “Today I am deeply saddened and disgusted, but above all I am proud. Proud of Evan Rachel Wood and the others who have come forward against Marilyn Manson, my ex. McGowan said her experience with Manson was different from that described by the musician’s accusers, but she added, “It doesn’t matter whether he was like that with others before or after.”

McGowan continued, “It takes time to emerge. And again, I am proud. Proud of the women and anyone who opposes an abuser. They steal time. They are time eaters. They steal lives. They steal hopes, dreams, freedom, sexuality, love. “
In a statement released Monday, Wood accused Manson – real name Brian Warner – of taking care of her when she was a teenager and of “ gruesome abuse[ing] me for years. After her post, several more women came forward with similar allegations of sexual, physical and emotional abuse.
Manson has denied the allegations, calling them “terrible distortions of reality” in an Instagram post. He added, ‘My intimate relationships have always been completely consistent with like-minded partners. No matter how – and why – others choose now to misrepresent the past, that’s the truth. “
