Rockford shooting: suspect in custody after 6 shots, 3 killed in seemingly arbitrary act at Don Carter Lanes bowling alley, police say

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WLS) – A gunman opened fire at a Rockford bowling alley, killing three people and injuring three others on Saturday night. Authorities say it was a random attack.

Police identified two of the victims as teenagers but did not clarify their condition or age on Sunday morning.

Police are holding a suspect in custody after a deadly shooting at a bowling alley Saturday night.

Police said they believe the 37-year-old man in custody is the only one responsible for Saturday’s shooting.

Police have scheduled a briefing for later Sunday morning.

Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea said on Saturday that he didn’t think officers fired their guns, but the shooter was active when police arrived on the scene.

Rockford police asked the public to avoid the area during the next investigation in a tweet around 7:15 pm

O’Shea said Rockford police received calls for shots fired at the bowling alley at 6:55 p.m.

Republican US Representative Adam Kinzinger, whose district also includes Rockford, tweeted that he was “praying for the victims and their families tonight after the horrific attack in our community.”

Rockford is about 80 miles northwest of Chicago.
