Rockets star John Wall shoots NBA officials after short loss to Spurs

Despite being at home, the Rockets took 11 fewer free-throw attempts than San Antonio in Saturday’s narrow loss. After Houston briefly took the lone lead in the game with less than 4:00 left in the fourth quarter, the Spurs scored their next six runs on the foul line to pull away.

In post-game comments, veteran guard John Wall – who led the Rockets with 27 points (52.6% FG) and 7 assists in 32 minutes – made it clear that he was extremely frustrated by numerous calls.

When asked after the game about the late whistles in Saturday’s game that went against the Rockets, Wall replied:

I do not know why. I know I will probably be fined for it, but the referees are just incredible. We’re a team of guys who ride to the basket a lot, and we always get excuses for why we don’t get the same calls as the other guys.

Boys driving, [and] every time we bump into them or swipe them down they get every call. I feel like there are guys out there riding between me enough, Vic [Oladipo], EG [Eric Gordon], who drive and don’t get the same calls. It’s a bit frustrating, but because we miss simple shots that we normally get, and some guys get calls they probably shouldn’t get.

The full video of the interview after Wall’s game can be viewed below. Despite suffering from spasms, Wall absorbed a lot of contact on Saturday during his rides to the edge as he tried to lead his Rockets (11-11) to victory. It was only Houston’s second loss in the last nine games.

The referees for Saturday’s game were David Guthrie, Mitchell Ervin and Suyash Mehta. It remains to be seen whether the NBA will fine Wall on Sunday for its comments, as they often do for public criticism of officials.
