Robber holds TV reporter and crew up while filming in Ecuador

A TV reporter and his team were robbed while filming in Ecuador – their footage capturing the shocking moment when the armed robber pointed a gun straight at them.

Football reporter Diego Ordinola shared video of the brutal armed crook who attacked Friday afternoon when the DirecTV Sports crew filmed outside the Estadio Monumental stadium in Tarqui, Guayaquil.

“Phone!” the armed robber shouted, aiming a gun straight at Ordinola and wiping out the microphone he was using.

The thief, wearing a shirt and cap with a mask on his face, then raised his weapon to the cameraman before picking up a phone from someone just to the right of the photo.

The DirecTV Sports camera rolled during the robbery and while they followed him after a break – they filmed him being rolled off on the back of a motorcycle.

“We can’t even work in peace,” Ordinola wrote, sharing the clip, saying police had promised to find these criminals.

His mail was inundated with good wishes, as well as a number of people who used the footage to identify a possible license plate number for the engine used for the escape. It was not immediately clear whether any arrests had taken place or whether suspects were known.

In a follow-up message Thanking followers for their “messages of solidarity,” Ordinola wrote, “Let’s unite to eradicate crime in Ecuador.”
