They were among the first high-profile people to go public and revealed that they had tested positive for COVID-19.
And now, just over a year after they announced they had become ill with the virus, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson are still among the many millions who have not yet received any vaccinations.
Wilson opened their vaccination status when she was Hoda Kotb’s surprise co-host on The Today Show on Friday, April 2.

‘It has been so emotional. We haven’t gotten our vaccine yet, ”said Wilson when the topic of coronavirus came up.
How about hearing this for the first time in your life: ‘You’re not old enough’. It’s like, “OK, I’ll take that!” She added jokingly in reference to the Hollywood Power couple who were both 64 years old.
The singer and actress then explained, “We are queuing up now because so many people have been vaccinated and they are opening up to the next tier.”

Wilson also shared her hopes for the future after receiving the vaccine.
“But yeah, even when we found out we had antibodies and that was extraordinary because you knew you had some protection, that’s what the vaccine helps people too,” she said.
‘To see people hugging each other for the first time in a year, grandparents hugging their grandchildren, people hugging their parents, there is no such thing. That is really a gift. ‘
Last December, Hanks said he would get the vaccine publicly to convince more people it’s safe during a performance on Today.
‘We’ll get it long after everyone really needs it,’ The Forest Gump star said at the time.

Last month, Wilson reflected on her one-year anniversary diagnosis by posting a photo of the couple while they were quarantined in Australia.
‘A year ago today I played at the Sydney Opera House @sydneyoperahouse, the next day I started feeling very tired and sore, admitted to the hospital with Covid 19 two days later. I want to take a moment to say how grateful we are for our health, how grateful we are for the medical care we have received in Queensland, and that we share the grief of every person who has lost a loved one to this virus. ‘
She also wrote that she is “hopeful that so many can get the vaccine.”
A year later: Last month, Wilson shared a photo of himself and Hanks while they were quarantined in Australia, on the occasion of a year since they made their diagnosis public
Hanks revealed that both he and his wife tested positive for COVID-19 on March 11, 2020, while filming the upcoming movie Elvis in Queensland, Australia. That was around the time the virus was considered a global pandemic.
The couple were admitted to Gold Coast University Hospital for care and were eventually released on March 16. They then went into quarantine for 11 days before returning to their Los Angeles home, where they were held.
Hanks and Wilson both donated their blood antibodies for virus testing.
