Review: Powme’s 3-in-1 wireless charger is a game changer on the go

The Powme 3-in-1 Wireless Charger is a small USB-C hub that the manufacturers promise is the ultimate wireless charger. We looked at it to see if it could live up to those claims.

Look and feel

Powme purposely designed the 3-in-1 wireless charger as an extremely portable device that fits in laptop bags, briefcases, backpacks and even most wallets. And they’re right – it’s quite small compared to most other powered hubs on the market.

The Powme 3-in-1 wireless charger is less than two inches wide, two inches long and less than an inch thick and takes up less space on your desktop than most iPhones. We love this because it means it can easily fit into even the tightest of setups.

Our iPhone 11 sits on top of the Powme charger and completely obscures it

It’s also got a decent weight for its size, and while we’ve only been living with it for a short while, it feels pretty good.

However, we have one complaint: the Powme logo. While we don’t mind the look of the logo, it lights up when plugged into an electrical outlet. That makes it a less-than-ideal bedside companion should you be the type of person who keeps things by their bedside – like a college student in a dorm room.

Powme ports

The biggest reason most of us use hubs like this one is that our MacBooks don’t have enough ports.

The 3-in-1 wireless charger offers a few extra ports in a small, easy-to-carry package. It has a USB-A QC 3.0 port, perfect for connecting a USB mouse or keyboard, or for charging additional devices. Via a USB a 3.1 port you can connect thumb drives and external hard drives and transfer data up to 10 gigabits per second.

As expected, it includes a micro SD and a standard SD slot – but we were still glad it was included. This is perfect for those of us who occasionally shoot on cameras that write to SD cards.

And it also includes a single 60Hz 4k HDMI port, perfect for connecting to an external monitor or a conference room projector if needed.

Overall, we were pleased with the small hub’s offering and thought it could easily earn a permanent spot in your tech bag as your travel hub.

Powe power

Of course, all those ports aren’t the only draw to the Powme 3-in-1 Wireless Charger – it’s a charger, after all.

While it wouldn’t be an ideal solution for higher-powered MacBooks, especially when under load, the 30W USB-C port can keep your MacBook topped up. However, it works well when you’re doing lower-powered tasks like editing spreadsheets or replying to emails, and charges an idle or dormant machine without any issues. If you’re rocking a MacBook Air or an iPad, it’s a perfect tech bag companion.

Yes, it even charges your Apple Watch

Yes, it even charges your Apple Watch

Not only is it a handy little hub that powers your MacBook or iPad, but it’s also a wireless charger that can also charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirPods.

The Qi wireless charger can charge up to 10W, while the Apple Watch wireless charger can get up to 5W.

This was where it was a game changer for us. A cluttered workspace isn’t ideal, especially if you’re traveling on short notice or doing something as simple as moving from your office to the boardroom for the afternoon.

Since it can charge your MacBook, iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods, you need to pack less devices. You can also charge many of these devices at the same time, albeit a little more slowly.

We can keep our iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and bluetooth keyboard charged with just one USB-C cable and the Powme 3-in-1

Again, if you’re the light-packing type, we think this is a great way to pack all your essential tech without worrying about packing a ton of cables and adapters.

All in all

While we’re not in a rush to make this our main hub, we want to keep it about the same. Our perfect use case for this is to pair it with our mobile or iPad-centric workspace, so we can pack everything we need to work on the go in a small bag.

  • Charging areas for iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch
  • Two older USB-A ports for external storage or additional charging
  • Charges the Apple Watch
  • The small size makes it easy to take anywhere
  • Some ports are missing that have larger hubs
  • The 30W limit makes it less ideal for MacBook Pro users
  • Bright logo makes it unattractive to use at night in dorms and hotel rooms
