Retired Cary Police Captain Accused of DWI on New Years Day :: WRAL.com

– Retired Cary Police Captain Jerry Lynn McCormick was accused of driving by Cary Police while disabled on New Year’s Day.

McCormick, 56, was involved in an accident involving another car at the intersection of Tryon Road and Kildaire Farm Road, officials said. No injuries were reported in the crash.

He was a North Carolina police officer for over 30 years and, according to his online resume, retired in 2019 as Cary Police Chief.

When reached by phone Saturday morning, McCormick apologized for his actions.

“I’m sorry it happened,” McCormick said Saturday morning. “It was a bad judgment on my part.”

The incident had nothing to do with the town of Cary, he said, stressing that he has been retired for more than a year.

According to McCormick’s corporate website, he now works as an advisor and public speaker.

His website says, “As a retired police commander and chief security officer, I work with companies, associations, nonprofits and universities that train and enable employees, students, customers and staff to stay safe in unexpected or emergency situations.”

One of his workouts he offers is how to stay safe on the road by “avoiding common distractions while driving.”
