A re-surfaced clip of Sharon Osbourne making offensive comments about Meghan Markle’s Blackness surfaced online this week when the co-presenter of “The Talk” is accused of racist and homophobic comments directed against her former colleagues.
Journalist Yashar Ali, who released a report on Tuesday on allegations of Osbourne’s behavior towards her former co-hosts, also posted a Twitter thread on Saturday with an old clip from Osbourne about the Duchess of Sussex in ‘The Talk’.
The clip, reportedly filmed in 2018, features co-host Sheryl Underwood saying that Meghan has brought “Blackness to the royal family,” to which Osbourne replies, “She ain’t Black.”
After Underwood and Eve quickly responded to Osbourne, correcting her that the Duchess is a black biracial woman whose mother is black (Meghan’s father is white), Osbourne doubled down on her comment and fired back at her black co-hosts.
“Yeah, no, I know, but she doesn’t look black,” she said.
“To who?” Eve and Underwood questioned simultaneously.
“To someone, “ Osbourne can be heard responding amid chatter.
Eve then pointed out that “Black people come in all shades” before ending the discussion. The former co-host said such a complex conversation about skin tone and blackness deserves to be treated differently.
“That’s quite an argument we don’t need to have,” Eve said.
A CBS representative did not immediately return a request for comment on the re-surfaced clip.
Osbourne was heavily criticized last week after fiercely defending her longtime boyfriend Piers Morgan, who questioned and rejected the revelations in Meghan’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey on March 7. During that interview, the Duchess shared her experiences with racism, revealing that she had contemplated suicide during her time as a working royal family.
During an exciting exchange on ‘The Talk’, when Underwood asked Osbourne about her defense of Morgan, a visibly agitated Osbourne placed the responsibility on her co-host to ‘teach’ her how Morgan’s brutal attacks on Meghan could be viewed as racist.
Osbourne then offered an apology on social media addressed to ‘anyone of color’ the following day, writing that she ‘panicked, felt blind’ and ‘became defensive’ for fear of ‘being accused of racism ‘.
After Osbourne’s exchange with Underwood aired last week, she has since been publicly accused of making racist comments about her former co-host Holly Robinson Peete and using racist and homophobic comments to refer to her former co-hosts Sara Gilbert. and Julie Chen. Ali’s report detailing these allegations cited multiple unnamed sources, along with former “The Talk” co-host Leah Remini, who spoke in the article on the record.
Osbourne’s publicist Howard Bragman released a statement denying the charges against Ali, calling the charges “lies” and a “rearrangement of history.”
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, Osbourne claimed she was blinded by Underwood’s questions about Morgan last week, saying she was “ready” and unprepared for the question – which she says is common practice.
She called herself a “sacrificial lamb.”
CBS announced on Tuesday that “The Talk” will be on hiatus for another week, after the network initially said the show would be shut down Monday and Tuesday as it investigates the Underwood and Osbourne exchange.
