Respiratory Wellness Centers, an Alternative in Primary Health Care – Spanish Version

Guatemala. The Municipality of Guatemala, together with the Ministry of Health and Social Assistance and the support of the private sector, has been operating the Respiratory Welfare Centers since July 1, 2020 as an alternative to primary health care for Guatemalans.

These centers are spaces that have been conditioned to care for the population with respiratory problems or symptoms associated with COVID-19. There is an internal procedure for the classification of patients by means of a Triage Manual, after this screening the patient will be attended by a telemedicine doctor or if necessary a personal doctor, at this point he will be instructed to treat the disease that is present . If the doctor feels that a Pap smear is needed, he will ask MSPAS staff to perform it on site.

The Respiratory Wellness Centers are located in different parts of the capital and provide care Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Where are they located?
