ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. COVID-19 vaccines are moving fast in St. Johns County.
The vaccine is intended for health professionals and people 65 and older, and the health department hands out vaccines throughout the weekend. The county is now helping the health department with distribution.
On Friday evening before 9 p.m. people were already queuing to receive the vaccine on Saturday morning.
“I decided I would come today,” said Joan Tischer. “I don’t want to be the last to die of Covid. It’s just important. “
There were several cars in the street outside the health department on Friday night and some people even brought their RVs.
Officials say 340 people received the vaccine in St. Johns County on Friday and those who queued Friday night said they wanted to make sure they got theirs too.
Tischer said she arrived at 6 p.m. on Friday and will be first in line on Saturday morning to get the vaccine.
“It’s not as bad to wait here as to spend a night in the ICU,” said Tischer.
Amal Soni helped his parents set up their RV in line.
“They are both over 65. There are many people in the household who are at high risk. My wife has diabetes, so we wanted to make sure they were safe, ”Soni said.
Earlier in the day, long lines of cars waited outside the health department for the second day in a row. Health officials said the day’s supply of COVID-19 vaccines ran out within 2 and a half hours.
Licensed clinical social worker Ambria Page says she received the vaccine after waiting seven hours.
