Capcom will host the Resident Evil Showcase later this week, and fans of the horror franchise have just left their panties confused over the prospect of the three classic PlayStation 1 games being ported to modern consoles. This all stems from a countdown on the franchise’s Twitter account, which begins to mark each day leading up to the event with a retrospective of each mainline title. Well, all except Resident Evil 0. Thanks to some interesting differentiators between the original games and the videos that Capcom posted on Twitter, some fans think we’re about to get ports from the original PS1 versions of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Every post thus far has been aimed at the inventory screens, and eagle-eyed Twitter users are picking up on the changes between the games launched in the 1990s and what Capcom is posting on its social media channel. For example, the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis video below features a much longer inventory section and the 25th anniversary badge in the bottom right corner.

Because of the way Capcom had started counting down to the upcoming Resident Evil Showcase, supporters thought the developer might be announcing gates for the three classic games. They ran into a bit of a roadblock yesterday, however, as the countdown continued with Resident Evil 4. The general rationale now is simply that Capcom is counting down to the digital event by looking back at each major release. After all, it would tie in correctly with a Resident Evil Village reveal this Thursday. As cool as such a release would be on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, we highly doubt it will actually materialize.
