Reports falsely claim that the Tennessee nurse died after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine

As the COVID-19 vaccine is distributed to primary care health workers across the country, misleading reports about the vaccine are growing.

A post that has gone viral on social media claims that a Tennessee nurse died shortly after being vaccinated.

Not true

After looking at this topic, we discovered some issues: It’s not true.

The nurse passed out after getting her shot, she confirmed during an interview with WRCB TV, but said it was due to her medical condition, not the vaccine.

“I’ve had an overly reactive vagal response in the past, so if I’m in pain from something, a hangnail or if I hit my toe, I might just pass out,” the nurse, Tiffany Dover, told WRCB.

Chattanooga Hospital, CHI Memorial, has issued a press release with more details about the condition.

While fainting after receiving a vaccination is rare, the CDC says it has happened with vaccinations before.

According to the website, about 3% of men and 3.5% of women have reported fainting at least once in their lifetime. But the passing out has no lasting consequences.

“The passing out is not a side effect of the vaccine, but is related to her condition,” says Dr. Jesse L. Tucker, CHI Memorial intensive care physician.

On Monday, the hospital posted a video in which Dover was back at work with her colleagues.
