The Rams ended up with a quarterback from the NFC North. They tried to get another one first.

Sam Farmer of the LA Times reports that the Rams made a flight at Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. According to Farmer, the Packers were “adamant” that they didn’t trade Rodgers. Farmer didn’t specify the Rams’ bid for Rodgers – if it came to that.

The Packers have made it publicly clear that they don’t want to trade Rodgers. Rodgers, after needlessly suggesting last week that his future with the Packers is uncertain, a few days later tried to put most of the toothpaste back in the tube.

While it’s clear the Packers want Rodgers for 2021 and Rodgers wants to stay, Rodgers also wants clarity on his status, in the form of a contractual commitment that clearly binds player and team together for two or three years, if not longer.

Whether Rodgers gets that commitment and the resulting clarity is, as Rodgers would call it, a beautiful mystery.
