Report: Discord is looking for a buyer, the price tag could exceed $ 10 billion

Discord has reportedly put pen to paper for an exclusive takeover talk and is in a serious conversation about selling itself to another company.

According to a report from VentureBeat, multiple unnamed parties have expressed interest in the purchase of the giant chat platform provider, but a potential buyer in question has signed an agreement with Discord to bring the negotiations to near-final stage.

Discord has officially declined the publication’s request for comment on the grounds that it will not discuss rumors or speculation.

Any potential sale comes in the midst of an already explosive few months for the video game industry thanks to other major events such as the now-completed $ 7.5 billion sale of ZeniMax Media to Microsoft or Roblox‘s great direct list. Even Discord itself has garnered some of that attention ahead of these sales rumors, with the company raising an additional $ 100 million by the end of 2020.

In the full VentureBeat report found here, the publication notes that the ball is largely in Discord’s court, as the company has previously rejected sales opportunities due to mismatches between how its leadership and potential buyers envisioned next steps.
