Referee hospitalized after being run over after Rutgers match

EAST LANSING, Mich. Official Angie Enlund was injured on Wednesday at the end of the Rutgers-Michigan State women’s basketball game and taken to a hospital.

After the final buzzer, Rutgers player Tekia Mack went back to the Scarlet Knights bench when she accidentally ran over Enlund in center court and hit her hard.

Enlund lay on the ground for a few minutes and took off on a stretcher. She had mobility and movement of her limbs and went to a hospital for further evaluation.

A Michigan state spokeswoman said Enlund would be kept in the hospital overnight with a concussion, but she had no fractures.

“I know she was unconscious for a while,” said Michigan State coach Suzy Merchant. “They put her in an ambulance, but it’s very scary and serious. She hit very, very hard. She hit her head really hard so I would just pray for her and her family and hope she will be fine. “

The Rutgers players huddled in front of their couch, holding hands in a circle, praying for Enlund.
