Ray Donovan will be adapted into a Showtime movie, following the show’s cancellation last year.

Liev Schreiber, 53, will reprise his titular role for the film, according to Variety, writing the script alongside director David Hollander, 52.

Jon Voight, 82, and Kerris Dorsey, 23, are also returning for the film, which begins in the storyline where the show’s seventh season ended.

“ When Ray Donovan went off the air after seven amazing seasons, we heard from so many of his loyal fans that they weren’t ready to part with Ray and the wonderfully dysfunctional Donovan clan, ” Showtime exec Gary Levine told the outlet. “And so we are delighted that Liev and David are creating an exciting new chapter in this iconic series.”

Production begins on an indefinite date in New York.

When the show’s cancellation was announced in February 2020, Schreiber vowed in an Instagram post “ there will be more ” of the character.

It’s hard to describe how wonderful it feels for those of us in the Ray Donovan family who have been lucky enough to experience the overwhelming love and support you have all expressed for our show since the news came out that Ray wouldn’t return, ”he said at the time. “What’s more incredible is that it looks like your voices have been heard.”

“Too soon to say how or when, but with luck and your continued support, there will be more Ray Donovan.”

The show aired for 82 episodes from 2013-2020 for seven seasons on Showtime. It garnered Schreiber and Voight Emmy kinks, with Voight winning a Golden Globe in 2015, while Hank Azaria won an Emmy in 2016 for his work on the show as a guest star.

The show also featured regulars including Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok and Pooch Hall, and storylines for such notable names as Donald Faison, Lisa Bonet, Alan Alda, and Ryan Dorsey.
