Rapper DMX was hospitalized after a heart attack, lawyer says

Rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, has been hospitalized in White Plains, New York, after suffering a heart attack, his attorney told CBS News. No details were provided about the cause of the heart attack.

Attorney Murray Richman initially said DMX was taken off life support and breathing on its own, but when CBS News later asked for those details to be confirmed, Richman said “not as far as I know.”

DMX has been nominated for three Grammy awards during his career, received two nominations in 2000 and another in 2001. He has also been nominated for several other awards, including a BET Award in 2006 for Video of the Year, an MTV Movie Award in 2002 for Men’s Breakthrough for “Exit Wounds” and several MTV Music Video Awards.

Supportive messages quickly began to circulate on social media after the news of the state of DMX, many calling him a “legend” in the industry.

“The DMX story is so heartbreaking,” said Andrew Barber of Fake Shore Drive tweeted“It’s hard to explain how massive he was in the late 90s / early 00s. He touched people in a way I can’t explain.”

MMA fighter Jorge Masvidal tweeted a statement DMX has previously given to its fans: “If you fall, get up again, everyone here has been through as *** and you never know what God is willing to do for you until you need him to do something for you. “
