Updating: And as a follow-up to all of this, Celadon City’s Grass-type Gym leader has just been defeated. Received Rainbow Badge!

Another week has gone by, so what’s happening in the social media experiment that Twitter is playing Pokémon Red… in the avatar of a talented programmer? Well, read on!

After defeating Cerulean City Water-type Gym leader Misty, Twitter boarded the SSAnne in Vermilion City and took on its longtime rival Blue. According to reports (via the Discord channel for this social media experiment), Twitter’s team wasn’t in the best shape to fight everyone on board and didn’t bother to heal before the big match. Luckily, it was a relatively straightforward fight with Fearow, now known as “CHAD,” that ultimately delivered a super effective blow to Blue’s Ivysaur.

Not long after this HM01 (Cut) was acquired, and just days after the big win over Misty, Twitter was able to get Vermilion’s Electric-type Gym leader Lt. Surge to beat. Despite all odds, Twitter was able to solve the gym’s puzzle on the first try and made quick work of the ground floor trainers. In the fight against Lt Surge, Twitter took up the Rock-type Geodude. It cleared Surge’s entire group and defeated his last pocket monster, Raichu, in one fell swoop. The reward was of course the Thunder Badge.

Since then, Twitter has acquired through Diglett Cave, HM05 (Flash), developed a Geodude and Oddish, made its way through Rock Tunnel, and recently acquired HM02 (Fly) and scored a free Eevee.

The current company consists of a Level 27 Fearow (CHAD), Level 27 Graveler (ABBPRI), Level 30 Wartortle (AMAYBE), Level 28 Alakazam, Level 22 Gloom (Curse) and a Level 25 Eevee (DHY).

So at the time of writing, that’s three badges – who knows what Twitter accomplished in-game late next week. Are you as impressed as we are with the progress the internet has made so far as it plays into someone’s Twitter avatar? Leave a comment below and check out last week’s post for more backstory on this wild social media experiment.
