You may remember that before Super Mario 3D All-Stars was formally announced, Super Mario 64’s source code has been reverse engineered and released on PC. Nintendo, of course, offered more modding options than emulation for the platform classic, and of course tried to shut this down.
Undeterred, the support continued and if you have the right setup it can be played at 60fps at 4K resolution. There’s an ongoing community effort for further mods and while we missed it at the time, ray tracing is next.
Using Wet-Dry World to show it off, Dario unveiled a work-in-progress mod in November, adding realistic reflections and lighting to Super Mario 64 PC. Played with a GeForce RTX 3090, it looks absolutely stunning and we’re curious about the end result.
