LAS VEGAS – Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr sustained a groin injury during a scramble late Thursday night in the first quarter and left the game, running into the locker room with team trainers.
His status to return was questionable.
Carr, on the third and goal of the Los Angeles Chargers 2-yard line, ran to the right pylon when he stopped and grabbed his left groin as he went out of bounds, throwing the football away in frustration. Before taking off, Carr went 3-for-5 for 53 yards.
Marcus Mariota came into play as the quarterback for Carr on the Raiders’ next possession. It was Mariota’s first move after signing a $ 7.5 million contract this season.
Carr, 29, has started 108 of the 110 regular season games for the Raiders since taking over as a rookie in Week 1 in 2014 as a starter. He missed the last game of the 2016 regular season and a subsequent playoff game with a broken leg and a game in 2017 with a broken bone in his back.
