Russian President Vladimir Putin now says he will get his country’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine a month after he said he would not be injected with it.
A Kremlin spokesman told a Russian state television about the turnaround.
“He made this decision and waited for all the formalities to be completed,” said Dmitry Peskov.
The 68-year-old leader has worked remotely since the start of the pandemic, largely avoiding travel. He said one of his daughters took part in the clinical trial for the Sputnik V vaccine, which the country claims is more than 90 percent effective, and felt good afterward.
Russians over 60 can start requesting injections Monday, a day after health officials approve the vaccine for the elderly following a separate trial.
According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, Russia has about 2.8 million cases of coronavirus and about 49,000 deaths from the virus.
