ANAHEIM, California, USA – Shohei Ohtani played four empty innings, but with turbulence, and Albert Pujols backed him up with a homerun, as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Texas Rangers 6-2 on Tuesday-evening.
Kurt Suzuki hit another homerun for the Angels, who have won six of their nine home games.
Ohtani climbed the hill for the first time since April 4, after dealing with a blister on the middle finger of his throwing hand.
The Japanese righthanded gave up only one basehit, but was the first starter since at least 1901 to pitch four scoreless innings with at least six walks and seven strikeouts, Sportradar said.
He joined Tyler Chatwood of Colorado (2017) and Bill Bailey of the Baltimore Terrapins (1914), as the only ones who worked five innings or less and allowed no runs, conceded a hit, at least six walks and split seven strikeouts.
Jonrdan Lyles (0-2) took the loss and gave up three runs and five hits.
For the Rangers, Cuban Adolis García was 2-0.
For the Angels, Pujols was 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Cuban José Iglesias scored 3-0 with one.
